Not to belittle causes and their awareness campaigns, but October seems to be a particularly busy one. And I’m one that always advocates for ACCEPTANCE rather than awareness (because awareness campaigns tend to focus on the negative and the pity aspect) but that’s neither here nor there.

Where was I?

Right. Awareness months and whatnot. To wit:

National Pork Month
Clergy Appreciation Month
Pregnancy Loss and Infant Loss Awareness Month
Filipino American History Month
National Arts & Humanities Month
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender History Month
National Cyber Security Awareness Month
Fair Trade Month
Dwarfism Awareness Month
Auto Battery Safety Month
German American Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15 in the United States)[5]
National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15 in the United States)
Italian American Heritage Month: Italian Heritage and Culture Month
Polish American Heritage Month
Celiac Sprue Awareness Month
Health Literacy Month
Healthy Lung Month
National Dental Hygiene Month
National Down Syndrome Awareness Month
National Infertility Awareness Month
National Lupus Erythematosus Awareness Month
National Physical Therapy Month (in United States)
National Spina Bifida Awareness Month (in United States)
Rett Syndrome Awareness Month (in United States)
Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month
World Blindness Awareness Month
American Pharmacist Month
Medical Ultrasound Awareness Month
3D Ultrasound Awareness Month

I mean, is it me? Do we NEED all of this? AND THIS IS JUST OCTOBER. April is another one with a bunch of “awareness.”  Autobattery safety? Pork awareness?  IF YOU AREN’T AWARE OF PORK THERE IS A PROBLEM, YO. Some of those awareness days are a teensy bit more important than others, I reckon.

Just sayin’.

For the record, I’m not saying important causes should NOT have awareness. Obviously, important causes are a different story. But pork? Car batteries? Ummmm… This here is what I like to call satire. You know, funny? Also? Thanks to This Side of Typical for the list. 🙂

October is the best month all year. There’s my anniversary on the 1st, my b-day on the 5th, Thanksgiving and Halloween. How could a month get better?
