It’s Personal

June 14, 2012 by Marj Hatzell

I tend to over-share on facebook just a wee bit (go ahead, laugh at my understatement). I mean, I share some personal stuff. I talk about my kids and dogs quite abit. I joke about our misfortunes and link like a madwoman when I don’t feel like posting about what’s actually going on in our lives.

But one thing I don’t do is share politics. Not here, not on FB, not anywhere. Why? Allow me to ‘splain.

The honest truth is that my beliefs are personal. Whether it be political or spiritual or other, they are my thoughts and my thoughts alone. I think I inherited my tendency to be non-confrontational from my mother. I just don’t like to rock the boat.

That’s not to say I don’t have opinions, because I do. Very solid opinions on some pretty heavy-duty topics. I have some beliefs I hold dear. I just like to keep them to myself. I’m not argumentative (go ahead, laugh again, people who know me IRL). I am not a debater. I like to think about things over and over in my head, research and read tons, formulate my own opinion.

I just don’t like to be argued with, see.

Or trifled with.

Come to think of it, I don’t like Trifle.

Or Tripe.

Where was I again? Right. Food!

No, not food. Politics and beliefs. RIGHT!

While I love a good argument once in a while, the truth is that I’m too emotionally fragile to get caught up in debating certain topics. I cannot currently separate my feelings enough to debate things without taking it personally. So I don’t debate. Instead, I stick to food, dogs, kids, you name it. And I joke about shiz. And I let other people post the controversial stuff.

So when I say I’m a delicate flower? I mean it, ok?

What you are really saying is that I would enjoy talking politics and religion with you so we could share ideas. Very, very hard to do in the blog world. Which means we need to meet sometime 🙂

yeah–people can be dicks about their opinions. and have opinions on their dicks.

    but mostly, bacon.

    that is all

I try to keep in mind that everyone has a right to their own opinion. And if their opinion is different than mine, that’s okay too. As long as someone isn’t too opinionated, I try to relate to their point of view. And if they’re too opinionated, I just might not read all of their posts. But I think you have a good amount of opinion.

Just like me. Totally non-confrontational. Oh…wait…
