He’ll Make a Great Lawyer Someday
3November 13, 2008 by Marj Hatzell
Bug Boy has been unusually compliant the past few days, so much so that I was laughing at the full moon last night (since that is when they are usually completely bonkers). It could be that we finally have the right combo of medications. Or perhaps there is something else afoot. Exhibit A: our conversation this morning:
BB: Mom. I hear mice and rats make great pets.
DG: Yes, they do. When I worked in a pet shop in high school, rodents were my favorites. Reptiles were my least favorite. So, where did you hear that?
BB:Harry Potter.
DG: Uh-huh…(not really listening)
BB: Don’t they sell all of those things at Petsmart? You know, like rats, mice, big rats, small rats, mice…
DG: Ummm…yes. Why?
BB: Well, I was thinking. I’m going to be eight, you know. I’m almost grown up. And rats and mice make GREAT pets, don’t you think?
DG: Uh huh… (not sure what he is getting at)
BB: So. I think I should get a rat or a mouse. You know, I’ll let it sleep with me in my room. And I’ll take GREAT care of it. And I’ll feed it every day. And I’ll clean its cage and give it water and pet it and kiss it. And I’ll take GREAT care of it.
DG: !!!!
BB: And I’ll take GREAT care of it. Mice and rats make great pets.
DG: (trying to dig herself out of a hole). Um. But we have a dog. And she eats rodents.
BB: OMG! EEEEEEWWWWW!!!! SHADOW! NOOOOOO!!!!!
DG: We can’t have a rat or mouse. Bugaboo would get into it and stim the bedding all over the place. Plus, we have Shadow.
BB: Can we get rid of her and get a dog that doesn’t eat rats and mice?
Sigh. I knew this conversation was coming someday. He has some valid arguments, really. That’s the last time he watches Harry Potter. Next thing you know, he’ll want an owl.
Living with a young lawyer must be so trying at times. Guess you better make sure he doesn’t record you.
