Taking the Big Risks in Life

June 5, 2007 by Marj Hatzell

The time has come.  It has been a little over two months and today I have a hair appointment at noon.

Y’all know how difficult it is for me to do this. I do NOT like to have my hair touched. I do NOT like to get it cut very often.  I have had the same hairdresser for nearly ten years and I love her (yes, love her) because she knows exactly what I want, even when I do not.  But it does not make it any easier.  Chalk it up to sensory overload.

I am not a big risk taker. I do not like to rock the boat, I am not spontaneous and I basically cannot function without my lists.  I do not stray too far from my lists (unless it is at Tarzhay!  ON SALE!) because my lists make me comfy.  And I wonder why my children have so much trouble with this?  Hmmm…where could it possibly come from?  Hmmmm…

I know, getting my haircut is not a “big risk” to some people, but it is to me. I have basically had the same haircut, or variation of the same haircut, for fifteen years, folks.  All five of you, are you listening?  It was a bob, a layered bob, a shag-layered bob, a long-layered bob, long layered and grown out to my butt from a bob (in long layers).  Not much variation.  The color has remained about the same.  It has been strawberry blond, reddish blond, dark reddish blond, light reddish brown (I am a taking a risk there, huh?) and ginger copper, which is reddish blond with blondish highlights.  It is a safe color for a safe haircut.  Long, sexy hair for a “soccer mom” (BTW, I hate that term. I prefer Domestic Engineer or Goddess)?  Snort.  It doesn’t exist.  There ain’t nothing sexy about peanut butter in said hair.  It is usually in need of being washed and back into a pony tail.  My current haircut is the best I have ever had and I posted pictures to prove it.

So what will I get today?  The same haircut, slightly updated?  Or should I go for something shorter, funkier and newer?  I’d like to chop it all off but I know I would hate it.  I also do not want the proverbial “Mom-Do.”  I just do not know how far I will go.  Stay tuned…

I’m THINKING about going blonde, “just because”. Heck, nobody knows me in TX yet. Sure, I’ll have to keep it up down there, but maybe that would force me to actually get my hair done more.

You are welcome ANY DAY you’d like to come by and clear us out of food stuffs. The movers come in two weeks, so I’d better have the boys’ toys and books sorted out before then, too.

Movers here in two weeks, it’s a four day project. I encourage nosiness while the movers are here. More like “help me keep an eye on them”. Then I clean the house and move about a week later. Sigh…

Short, sassy, spiky? Or maybe retro-80’s with wings? I really don’t know what would look better on you. You are lucky enough to have the kind of bone structure that any look could be a great one. Except for bald, maybe 🙂

    So…..what’s the verdict?
